General Approach of This Site

technology-the-gift-that-keeps-on-givingOn this web site, as well as a lot of breaking science and technology news, you will also see posted what I’m calling “field notes.” These will form, in essence, a running record of the research and production activities for the films I’m making. They will be more along the lines of what is generally expected from a blog – often a personal perspective from a working journalist interested in finding and promoting the truth.

But let me backtrack for a moment, and explain a little more about the overall approach of The X-Journals, at least as it is currently presented.

The fundamental premise, of course, is that over the next 100 years, our society is going to change far more dramatically than any of us can really imagine at this point. The fundamental driver of that change will be science and technology, just as it has been for the last 100 years. Belief systems, politics, and even real, behind-the-scenes conspiracies all must adapt to new technological developments one way or another - which is why I consider these of secondary importance. It is what emerges from science and technological innovation into public hands that will most define the dimensions and character of the world our children and grandchildren inherit.

So the first obvious question that springs from this premise is where the big leaps forward will come from. Where will the completely unexpected and unpredicted technologies emerge – the developments that will foster a whole new world view, the next revolution in a whole sector of life?

These may come from the natural progression of research and discovery in mainstream science. But I personally suspect that the really significant leaps forward - those mind-twisting, revolutionary developments that change the whole ballgame – just might spring from outside the main thrust of the scientific establishment, from what I think of as “rebel” scientists and researchers.

So on this web site, there is what some might find a strange mix. There is a lot of news related to mainstream scientific discoveries and technological developments, picked mainly based on what I find interesting or significant. I believe that if one is truly seeking to identify the emerging technologies that will shape tomorrow, you certainly can’t ignore the scientific establishment or the many brilliant minds working within it.

This forms a vital background to then also look beyond mainstream, well-accepted scientific domains to other individuals whose work may have been ignored, suppressed or otherwise discredited by entrenched vested interests. Here, of course, many of the claims made will prove to be less than credible. Sorting the truth from the fiction is a fundamental purpose of both this site and the planned films. And the on-going efforts in this direction will largely be found detailed in the field notes. (For this reason, in the main menu system, there is a separate “field notes” category which can be selected just to follow the running record of these.)

I expect that some readers may only be interested in the field notes because these delve into what is increasingly regarded as suppressed scientific research. However, by also paying a little attention the continuing stream of advancements from the scientific establishment, I think it is possible to develop a more comprehensive and accurate picture of where we are headed.
