First Impressions of the “Free Energy” Movement

/Field Note

lines-of-investigationOver recent weeks, I have begun to make some initial forays to establish contacts within the “free energy” movement. I call it that because the more I research, the more it does seem like a sub-culture at this point, albeit composed of many loosely associated groups and individuals.

What I mean when I describe it as a sub-culture is that it appears that it has its personalities, its stars or big names, its factions and alliances, not to mention its personality clashes and disputes. Many of the key players, of course, virtually all know one another, or at least know of one another. (more…)

Zones of Scientific or Technological Stagnation

/ Field Note

In the whole Montreal International Auto Show 2008 there was only one revolutionary car. The Tesla Roadster, by the startup Californian company Tesla Motors, is a car that breaks the stagnation in the car industry. It's 100% electric with no emitions and no compromise in range or performance. (Etienne Boucher/ CC)

Although I’ve only completed a rather cursory, “broad shoot” assessment, a number of key zones of scientific investigation nevertheless emerge as areas where technological development appears to have been heavily stifled, either by vested interests or the scientific establishment’s orthodoxy.

Most of these zones at least have their advocates or supporters, if not a well developed community of interest pursuing research and development outside the main scientific or engineering community. And each of these zones is definitely a fascinating subject for further investigation in the context of The X-Journals.

Vacuum or Zero Point Energy

Zero point energy or vacuum energy is the lowest state of energy in the universe.  It is strong enough to keep helium a liquid, even at temperatures that are micro-degrees from absolute zero. It gives rise to the mysterious Casimir force, also called van der Waals forces, that keeps geckos stuck to any surface.  It causes non-thermal noise in lots of electronic circuits, which some think can be filtered out to produce an energy flow. And zero point energy is also becoming the leading candidate for dark energy. (See today’s posted story,  New Evidence for Dark Matter Around Small Galaxies.) (more…)

Videos: Stanley Meyer’s Water Fuel Cell

Text originally publish on  All Experts:

Meyer has demonstrated his fuel cell device before Professor Michael Laughton, Dean of Engineering at Mary College, London, Admiral Sir Anthony Griffin, a former controller of the British Navy, and Dr Keith Hindley, a UK research chemist. According to the witnesses, the most startling aspect of the Meyer cell was that it remained cold, even after hours of gas production as his system appeared to operate on mere milliamperes, rather than the amperes that conventional electrolysis would require. The witnesses also stated:

“After hours of discussion between ourselves, we concluded that Stan Meyer did appear to have discovered an entirely new method for splitting water which showed few of the characteristics of classical electrolysis. Confirmation that his devices actually do work come from his collection of granted US patents on various parts of the WFC system. Since they were granted under Section 101 by the US Patent Office, the hardware involved in the patents has been examined experimentally by US Patent Office experts and their seconded experts and all the claims have been established.”

Water Fueled Car

It Runs on Water is a video with Stanley Meyer demonstrating the water fuel cell in a car. Meyer claimed that he could run a 1.6 liter Volkswagen Dune Buggy on water instead of gasoline. He replaced the spark plugs with “injectors” to spray a fine mist into the engine cylinders, which he claimed were electrified at a resonant frequency. The fuel cell would split water into hydrogen and oxygen gas, which would combust back into water vapor in a conventional hydrogen engine to produce net energy. Estimates made showed that only 22 US gallons (83 L) of water were required to travel from one US coast to the other. Meyer also demonstrated his vehicle for his city’s local news station Action 6 News. A video of the buggie in action can be found here. (more…)

Scientists Find New Way to Produce Hydrogen

The figure shows aluminum clusters reacting with water to produce hydrogen. The image on the bottom depicts a water molecule (one hydrogen atom (red ball) and two oxygen atoms (silver balls)) splitting on the surface of an aluminum cluster. The blue regions are Lewis-acid sites and the orange regions are Lewis-base sites. The upper-right image shows multiple water molecules binding to the active sites of an aluminum cluster. The upper-left image shows the release of hydrogen (two silver balls surrounded by orange halo). Credit: A.C. Reber, VCU/Penn State

Scientists at Penn State University and the Virginia Commonwealth University have discovered a way to produce hydrogen by exposing selected clusters of aluminum atoms to water. The findings are important because they demonstrate that it is the geometries of these aluminum clusters, rather than solely their electronic properties, that govern the proximity of the clusters’ exposed active sites. The proximity of the clusters’ exposed sites plays an important role in affecting the clusters’ reactions with water. The team’s findings will be published in the 23 January 2009 issue of the journal Science. (more…)

Sterling D. Allan - Open Source Free Energy Technology

Sterling D. Allan

Sterling D. Allan, CEO of Pure Energy Systems Network, and founder of the New Energy Congress, gives a presentation on Aug. 11, 2007 at the Gnomedex conference in Seattle. He speaks about the process of screening for the best clean energy technologies, and suggests the open source approach for breaking the logjam on some of the more revolutionary technologies. He defines “free energy” as referring to energy modalities that harness energy that does not have to be paid for, including conventional methods such as solar, wind, geothermal, and tide; as well as the exotic approaches, including cold fusion, zero point energy, and magnet motors. He expects that some of these more exotic forms could bring the price of energy down several-fold, while also being clean and renewable. He recommends the open source method for quickly disseminating the technology once it is mature enough.

Note: The video begins about 10 minutes into the 45-minute presentation.

Video: Professor Doubts Water Car Claims

A leading alternative fuels expert throws water on Japanese company claims that it’s developed the world’s first car powered by just water.

Professor Theodosios Korakianitis at Queen Mary University of London says water by itself would not be enough to get your car going.

Siddhartha Dubey reports.

Video: Genepax Develops an Eco-Friendly Car

According to a Reuters report, a Japanese company Genepax has developed an eco-friendly car that runs on nothing but water.

The car has an energy generator that extracts hydrogen from water that is poured into the car’s tank. The generator then releases electrons that produce electric power to run the car. Genepax, the company that invented the technology, aims to collaborate with Japanese manufacturers to mass produce it.

Michelle Carlile-Alkhouri reports.

Video: Another Water Powered Car

Another water powered car video on YouTube… this and similar videos have been getting hundreds of thousands of hits, indicating there are a lot of people watching these. The question is whether it is just hot air (pardon the pun) or whether there is something happening here which challenges conventional physics and allows the water molecule to split into hydrogen and oxygen with only a fraction of the energy burning hydrogen can produce.
